Thinking About Homeschool
As Salaamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatu:
Being an educator for over 25 years and a homeschool parent of four (two of whom have completed university with degrees in education), and since obtaining my Masters Degree in Education I have felt a pressing urge to expand. I needed to come out of the classroom and focus more on the homeschool environment in order to guide other parents, students, families, and schools in developing a sense of ease, and relieve the anxiety parents and educators feel when starting a new academic journey.
GIVING CHOICES
Public School is no longer the leader in innovative learning. With the advancements of technology we are offered so many learning resources and revenues at our fingertips. Finding the one the fits your learning institution or family is my pleasure. First, let's set the record straight! Alternative doesn't mean bad. There are so many negative assumptions associated with alternative learning, however, we’ll only keep it positive. The term "alternative" is now used to describe nearly every type of school imaginable, but many share certain distinguishing characteristics:
Small size
Close student-teacher relationship
Student decision-making
Diverse curriculum
Peer guidance & Parental involvement
An Alternative School, sometimes referred to as a mini school, or specialized school, is any public or private school having a special curriculum, especially an elementary or secondary school offering a more flexible program of study than a traditional school. Alternative schools is geared towards students whose needs cannot be met in the traditional school.
Blended learning is the combination of multiple approaches to learning. For example:- self-paced, collaborative or inquiry-based study. Blended learning can be accomplished through the use of 'blended' virtual and physical resources. Examples include combinations of technology-based materials, face-to-face sessions and print materials. The concept of blended learning has particular relevance to language learning
E-learning is usually delivered via a personal computer. It includes learning delivered by other communications technologies. Methods include online lectures, tutorials, performance support systems, simulations, job aids, games, and more. Effective e-learning is often a blend of methods.
Homeschooling Methods have a wide variety of homeschooling practices and resources. Many homeschoolers base their work on particular educational theories such as:
Classical education Waldorf Education* Theory of multiple intelligence's* Montessori method.
Others use a broad combination of ideas or allow the child to develop his or her own motivation, through what is known as Unschooling. Because homeschool laws vary widely according to state statutes, official curriculum requirements vary.
These are just a few alternative education methods that my research into the alternative education expedition has taken me.
May Allah give us success in our journey to guide our children, youth, and those under our guidance. Aameen!
